The revamped Wonderboom National Airport in Pretoria is expected to be used extensively during the 2010 FIFA World Cup to transport fans and FIFA delegates to and from the host city.
The airport will be able to operate scheduled flights from host city to host city to cater for traveling fans as well as charter flights between host cities and places of accommodation.
From the airport, fans can easily be integrated into other modes of transport such as rail, buses and taxis to get the soccer match venue.

Wonderboom Airport, north of Pretoria, is due to introduce scheduled flights to Cape Town and Durban from October by an airline that has not yet been named, but is believed to be Interlink Airlines.
The Tshwane City Council, which owns the airport, is spending R165,5m upgrading Wonderboom's infrastructure in preparation for the new service. The development includes expanding the apron to provide parking for more and larger aircraft and putting a luggage carousel in place.

This is part of the planned improvement of facilities that includes an arrival and departure hall, flight bookings and luggage handling. Certain security equipment, such as metal detectors and X-ray equipment, have already been purchased.

Over the past two years, Wonderboom Airport has been constantly busy upgrading to a new level. The upgrading is done according to Civil Aviation's requirements.
During the past few months, two ATM facilities were installed, new paving was laid, shades were put up in the parking area, engine test facilities for aeroplanes were built and internal roads were resealed.
