The Wonderboom National Airport successfully hosted the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) 25th Anniversary Celebration airshow on Saturday, 20 April 2024. The airport has proven to be yet an ideal destination venue to host events of this magnitude, evident from the great public interest it received.
The event was in celebration of SACAA silver jubilee as the country’s civil aviation safety and security Regulator. To commemorate this significant milestone SACAA used the occasion to reach out to the youth, learners, students, and the general public. The airshow was comprised of aerial displays, aviation career exhibitions, and food stalls.
An estimated 3 000 guests attended the event, including learners from local schools who were given the opportunity to acquire valuable knowledge, explore career paths and network with industry insiders and also to witness aircraft and flight displays firsthand. They had an opportunity to interact with aviation industry exhibitions inclusive of some of the airport housed flight schools namely, FlyFofa, Blue Chip and Eagle Air further to that included other aviation stakeholders Airlink, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Air Traffic and Navigation Company (ATNS), the South African Air Force (SAAF), and many other stakeholders in aviation.
Among the dignitaries that graced the event was the Minister of Transport honorable Sindisiwe Chikunga who delivered a keynote address, CEO of SACAA Ms. Poppy Khoza, the Executive Mayor of Tshwane Cllr Cilliers Brink delivered a message of support and welcomed all guests to the city and further to that emphasized how Wonderboom National Airport is of great potential for expansion and that the municipality will focus on basic infrastructure with the private sector to be recruited for capital upgrades.
