Wonderboom National Airport hosted an Aviation Career Day on Friday, 14 November 2025, as part of the build-up activities leading to the iconic Wonderboom Airshow 2025. The event, led by the MMC for Roads and Transport, Cllr Tlangi Mogale, aimed to inspire, educate and expose young people to the vast and growing career opportunities within the aviation and aerospace sectors.

The Aviation Career Day brought together 250 learners from various schools across Tshwane, offering them a dynamic and interactive platform to explore aviation-related professions. Learners engaged directly with industry experts, participated in demonstrations and interacted with several aviation stakeholders, including flight training schools, aviation service providers and key sponsors such as Alt Academy, Colossal Avia Partner, Sweet Pineapple and other industry organisations. Exhibitors showcased flight simulators, drone technology, aircraft maintenance tools, cabin crew equipment and air traffic management systems, giving learners a rare opportunity to understand real-world aviation environments.

Throughout the day, learners attended career talks, motivational sessions and skills demonstrations highlighting pathways into piloting, aircraft engineering, air traffic control, aviation safety, airport operations, cabin crew roles and emerging future aviation technologies. Many learners also toured parts of the airport precinct, where they observed aircraft up close and gained insight into daily airport operations.

This initiative formed part of the City of Tshwane’s broader commitment to skills development, youth empowerment and economic growth through strategic partnerships within the transport and aviation sectors. By hosting this event, the City not only ignited interest in aviation-related careers among young people but also strengthened its long-term objective of building a pipeline of skilled, diverse aviation professionals who will contribute to the region’s economic competitiveness and the future sustainability of the aerospace industry.
